This was beautiful. I love the way Toby explains his relationship with Chris- that he gave him what was left of his soul. Toby's genuine longing and token self hatred contrasts painfully with Elliot's sense of morality and justice. At least Elliot is making a real effort to understand.

I like that you touched on something that always felt weird to me: Chris's motivation for killing the three boys. I never wanted Keller to be some innocent bad boy with a heart of gold, but so
everything seemed off about the MO. They needed to be a means to an end. I always wanted to know more at least about his motivations.

Yay for another 21 chapters! This series is wonderful, and I'm so happy there's plenty more coming. I highly doubt any of us would object to a multi-thousand word sex scene. About that, I'm curious to see if and how Elliot can get over his sexual hang ups. It is hard enough for him to separate sex and violence, but with the perma-victim Toby? Oh god, what a mess.

This chapter is one if my favorites. I love the vulnerability of Toby laying his heart on the table and hoping for the best in spite of the wall Elliot has built. It hurts so good.
